Commodore File Conversions |
Do you have some important word processor files from your Commodore days that you’d like to convert to PC format? We can help! We can convert almost any Commodore word processor file to a text file that you can load and edit with most any PC word processor.
Some other important information about these conversions: The program used to convert Commodore
(CBM) files to PC
format only accepts 8-character file names. It will use the first 8 characters
of the file name. It will eliminate spaces and most non-letter characters such
as hyphens (-). For example, Summer Trip will be renamed Summertr. If two or more CBM files have similar names, and the names
are longer than eight characters (such as Summer Trip 1, Summer Trip 2, etc.),
we will rename them (for example, Summert1, Summert2, etc.) The numbers on the
translated files may not necessarily match the numbers in the CBM file names. When the files are renamed manually, we add the extension
.txt. For files which have NO extension, you can do any of the following: 1. Rename them to add .txt to the end. They can then be opened in Notepad, Wordpad, or most any PC word processor. 2. Right click on the file, select OPEN, and choose the
program to use (best choice is your usual word processor). 3. Open them from within your word processor using the
normal File/Open method. Once loaded into your word processor, they can be edited and renamed as desired. Many times, your converted files will have garbage characters at the beginning of the first page, and possibly elsewhere in the file. These are usually Commodore formatting instructions which have no equivalent when converted; you can just delete them. What about confidentiality? We have no interest in reading your files (we barely
have time to read the newspaper). However, we will open two or three files from each
disk in Microsoft Word to verify that the files converted to readable text. Prices: 1 to 5 disks: $10 Additional disks $2 each Shipping $5 (Converted files will be sent to you by Email or on a CD-ROM. If you don’t want your Commodore disks back, and can receive the files by Email, there is no shipping charge.) There may be situations when we can't convert your files. In this case there is no charge except the return shipping cost. Send Email for information, pricing details, where to send your disk etc. |
